About Us

The Therapy Connection, formerly Dumas Therapy, Inc., is a leading provider of therapy services. Our mission is to assist every patient in living their best life through functional therapeutic interventions. We provide occupational therapy services with an emphasis in specialty programs for autism, developmental delay, cerebral palsy, and visual impairments. Therapy is also provided to improve activities of daily living, fine motor skills and visual perceptual skills. Our treatments are individually selected for every patient and may consist of neuromuscular massage therapy, neurodevelopmental treatment, or sensory integration. Dumas Therapy utilizes these interventions to produce the best functional gains at home and school. We complete detailed evaluations and develop treatment plans to enhance daily performance while supporting and educating family members.

Harriett Walker Dumas, OTR/L, CMT, CNMT

Mrs. Harriett Dumas is a 1996 graduate of Tuskegee University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy. She furthered her education in a two-year healthcare professionals massage therapy program at New Life Institute (currently Rising Star Institute) in Atlanta, Georgia. She became a certified massage therapist and neuromuscular therapist. Mrs. Dumas has successfully incorporated massage as a modality with occupational therapy to assist with normalizing muscle tone for soft tissue manipulation for pediatric and adult patients. She formerly provided contract occupational therapy services for the local Early Intervention – Babies Can’t Wait program in Bibb, Baldwin, Peach and Houston counties. She has owned and operated three pediatric therapy facilities in the past promoting the best functional gains for her patients. Dumas Therapy also provides contract therapy services in school systems to assist children with excelling in their academics. As a leading therapist, she has taught professional continuing education classes to physical and occupational therapists on “Incorporating Massage into Patient Treatment Plans” and “Soft Tissue Mobilization Techniques for Improving Therapy Outcomes”. Mrs. Dumas is currently pursuing a certification in Sensory Integration and the administration of the Sensory Integration and Praxis Test. In the course of her busy schedule, she has completed graduate courses at The University of Massachusetts - Autism Studies program.  In 2016, Mrs. Dumas has obtained her certification in physical agents and modalities to assist with increasing patient outcomes and decreasing pain.

Mrs. Dumas has also authored a specific handwriting program to assist all children and especially students with Autism and other special needs. The Wonder Paper – Hand Writing Development System has been implemented during her pediatric occupational therapy services for four years. It has been proven to enhance handwriting development skills with all students. Handwriting is developed using five levels of instruction and four levels of adapted paper that eventually leads back to the use of regular paper. The Wonder Paper is implemented to teach visual perceptual and spatial relations skills. In 1998, she also patented and invented “Push-Pipe: The UE Stroke Apparatus” to enhance functional gains with adult hemiplegic patients.
